Will the website or the mail go down while transferring?
No. A transfer only alters who administers the registration, nothing more. Your existing DNS records travel across untouched, which leaves the website and the inbox running from the first minute of the move to the last.
Is the bonus year actually free?
Across most popular TLDs, yes. Moving in adds a whole extra year to whatever term you still have sitting there, and that year costs you nothing at all. A small group of country-code and niche extensions refuse to allow it. Where your domain falls into that group, we say so plainly before you reach checkout.
So what is an EPP code, and where would I find mine?
An EPP code (you may hear it called an auth code, or an authorization code) behaves like a password that proves the domain belongs to you. Ask your existing registrar for it, either through their dashboard or their support desk, and it usually reaches your inbox inside a few minutes.
How long does a domain transfer usually take overall?
Once your approval goes in, most transfers finish inside a few days. The exact timing hangs on your old registrar and on the rules attached to that particular TLD. Right through all of it, the domain carries on working as though nothing were happening.
Which jobs need doing before I start the transfer?
Two quick jobs at your existing registrar to begin with: take the domain off lock, kill any transfer or privacy block sitting on it, then ask for the EPP code. Beyond that, the domain has to be 60 days old at minimum and cannot have changed hands within the past 60 days. That rule belongs to the registry, not to us.
Do my existing DNS records survive the move over to you?
