How much ranking value survives a 301?
Modern consensus: substantially all of it, given a relevant destination — the days of automatic redirect decay are past. Irrelevant destinations (page to unrelated homepage) get treated as soft 404s instead; relevance is the condition.
How long must redirects stay in place?
Treat them as permanent infrastructure — external links and bookmarks never fully update, and the redirect converts that legacy traffic indefinitely. Remove only rules whose old URLs genuinely receive no requests, verified by logs.
What happens if I outgrow my plan?
